The Joiners Returns – Dave Macho City and special guests
In May 1997, Tony Blair was handed the keys to 10 Downing Street. At the same time, with rather less fanfare, David Alexander Pollard obtained the keys to The Joiners Arms on Hackney Road. In their own ways, both turned their new homes upside down, although one involved machete-wielding locals, darkrooms, and a truckload of booze – the least said about the other, the better…
After nigh-on 20 years of late-licence queer good times, the Joiners Arms was closed down in Jan 2015 with a view to “developing” (bulldozing) the pub and surrounding buildings. It has sat empty ever since, leaving queers, beers and their dears with one less place to call home. Until now!
On Friday April 14th, Zigfrid von Underbelly on Hoxton Square will be hosting THE JOINERS RETURNS – a party to celebrate the legacy of the legendary LGBTQI pub, and to raise funds for the Friends of the Joiners Arms (the campaign to re-open the pub for the LGBTQI community).
We are THRILLED to present to you… DAVE MACHO CITY. Thursday nights at the Joiners were a lot like the sixties: if you remember them, you weren’t there (man). A mix of HI-NRG, slow jams, and mooning till 2am each and every Thursday, Dave Kendrick could be found at the DJ pulpit spraying the crowd with anthem after anthem, and he will be back back back to tear the house down. Evidence of his previous crimes can be found here:
Joining DAVE MACHO CITY will be Birmingham duo TW – after a summer of touring the sunshine island of Ibiza TW will be dropping their blend of funky house and Chicago classics. MaxiFeelya has been rinsing the dancefloors in London town in 2016 – supporting some of the best at Ministry of Sound, Egg and McQueen with his Tech House blends. Whilst Frost now spends much of his time promoting some of the biggest club nights and festivals – we are lucky to have this veteran of the pioneers knocking us out with his deeper vibe.
Underbelly will be open from 21.00 – 03.00 for this special event. Advance tickets can be purchased via Skiddle http://skdl.co/CKTf/hVF6SeZvcB
